Ravza Medressa started sewing workshop

In 2015, with the financial support of the US embassy in Kyrgyzstan, the PF AVEP began implementing the Madrasah – skills training in rural areas (M-STAR) project in the Chui oblast. One of the beneficiaries of the project was selected as madarsa Ravza in the village of Jany-Jer. As a result of the analysis of the labor market in the region and the study of the needs of students in the Ravza madrasah, a significant amount of demand was revealed by employers for labor in the sewing industry, and students of madrassas expressed a desire to take courses in sewing craft. In connection with this reason, within the framework of the M-STAR project, one of the classes of madrasah was equipped with sewing accessories, which today successfully releases students with basic sewing skills.

One of the very positive results of the M-STAR project on the madrasah territories opened a sewing workshop. According to the director of madrassah Ravza, Oskon Kalandarova, the main goal of opening a sewing workshop in the madrasah is to provide employment and support to increase the incomes of the graduates of the Ravza madrasah. This workshop has 20 sewing equipment, which were purchased with the financial support of local donors. And also in this workshop can work at least 40 people with two-shift work.

For today, the madrassa director is actively negotiating for preparing seasonal clothes with local businessmen who are supplying clothes to Russia.

Since the madrasah is a self-financing institution, they always have to look for sponsors to cover the costs of training, etc. Providing work for graduates in the sewing workshop, the madrasah solves the issues of employment of graduates, as well as their financial issues, by selling produced clothes. Which in turn, gives an opportunity for the madrasah to be financially independent. Students of madrassas are very happy, as they will be able to work on the territory of madrassas and help their parents in increasing the family budget.
